Developments are no longer confined to pure vehicle technology but, instead, incorporate the concerns of the service from the start. Diagnostic concepts aim at integrated solutions for all phases of the vehicle lifecycle, starting with the system and vehicle development via production to service.

The central starting point for locating the smallest replaceable unit that causes a fault and thereby reducing the no-trouble-found rates is the improvement of the diagnostic capability. It is accomplished by means of the intelligent application of onboard and offboard tools:
